Clear answers before you trust us with something this important.
How Our Fable works, who can contribute, what it costs, how Archive Guardians and continuity work, and how privacy and long-term access are protected.
Our Fable is a private platform where parents set up a memory archive for their child. Our Fable sends personalized questions to grandparents, family members, and friends on a natural cadence, inviting them to record a letter, voice memo, photo, or video message for the child. Standard milestone openings at 13, 16, 18, and 21 are calculated from the child's date of birth, and parents can add custom openings for exact future dates they choose.
Our Fable delivers archive messages by email as milestones are reached over time. Standard milestone ages 13, 16, 18, and 21 are calculated from the child's date of birth, while custom openings use the exact dates parents choose. Parents get a 30-day notice and a milestone-day reminder, and the child's email can also receive the milestone-day email if the family has configured it.
Anyone the parent invites: grandparents, co-parents, aunts, uncles, godparents, family friends, neighbors, chosen family, and anyone worth preserving. Each person receives a personal invitation link. No account or app download is required.
Circle members can submit written letters, voice memos, photos, and short video messages. Our Fable sends questions tailored to each person's relationship with the child, and they can respond in whatever format feels natural.
Our Fable includes standard milestone openings at 13, 16, 18, and 21, calculated from the child's date of birth. Families can also add custom milestones like graduation, a wedding day, or another meaningful date, and those use the exact dates parents choose.
Our Fable is $12/month or $99/year. It includes one child, unlimited circle members, thoughtful questions for your circle, Dispatches, The Day They Were Born, and AES-256 encrypted archive storage. Each additional child is $4/mo or $39/yr. Each child gets their own archive and can share the same circle or have a completely separate one.
Each additional child gets their own archive, milestones, and future delivery moments. When you add a child, you can choose to share the same circle or start a separate one. Most families will share a circle, but separate circles work for blended families, half siblings, or different grandparents.
Yes. A child can share the same circle as their sibling or have a completely separate one. Shared circles are best for most siblings, while separate circles support blended family structures.
Yes. Our Fable is private by design. The archive is intended for the parents who created it and the family experiences they choose to share. Archive content is not posted publicly or to social media by default, and families can export their content at any time.
Yes. Parents can view and delete anything added to their child's archive at any time.
Yes. Our Fable can be gifted as a recurring monthly or annual subscription with a gift code. The family is covered while the gift subscription remains active, and they can add additional children later if they need them. Visit ourfable.org/gift to send a gift code by email.
Our Fable creates a keepsake front page for your child's birthday, capturing details like weather, headlines, and the number one song from the day they arrived.
Dispatches let parents send photos, videos, notes, or voice memos to their whole circle privately, without group chats or social media. They are included in every Our Fable subscription.
Your family can export letters, photos, voice memos, and videos before cancellation, deactivation, or deletion. Before making any of those changes, export everything you want to keep.
Yes. You can download every letter, voice memo, photo, and video at any time. The data is yours, while the sealed-archive experience remains the part we protect.
Our Fable is designed for long-term archiving, with export tools and continuity features that help families keep access to what they collect over time.
No. Circle members receive a personal link, open their question, and respond. No account creation, no app download, and no password are required.
Sealed archive content is encrypted in the browser with your family's unique AES-256 key before upload. Data is also encrypted in transit and at rest, and recovery codes are your backup if you ever lose your password. Parents can also enable two-factor authentication.
Start at ourfable.org/signup. Choose monthly or annual billing, add your child's name and birthday, set your family password, and start inviting the circle in about five minutes.
Parents can name Archive Guardians to support continuity. Accepted guardians can help keep the archive active, help with billing continuity, request continuity support, and trigger eligible delivery if the family goes inactive for an extended period, a delivery milestone sits unattended, or payments lapse for too long. They do not get access to sealed content, cannot recover encrypted archive access, and do not take over the archive as if they were the parents.
Our Fable includes a continuity layer through Archive Guardians. You can name trusted adults who can help keep the archive active, request continuity support, help with billing continuity, and trigger eligible delivery if the family goes inactive for an extended period, if a milestone delivery is missed, or if payments lapse for too long. Guardians do not get access to sealed content, cannot recover encrypted archive access, and do not step into full parent ownership of the account or archive.
Recovery codes are your backup for encrypted archive access if you ever lose your password. Store them somewhere safe, because encrypted archive content cannot be recovered without your password or a recovery code.
No. Archive Guardians are limited continuity contacts, not replacement account owners. They can help with continuity support, billing continuity, and eligible delivery, but they cannot view sealed archive content, recover encrypted access, or assume full parent ownership of the archive.
Existing circle members can keep contributing as long as the family's account remains active. That continuity is separate from the Archive Guardian role: contributors can keep adding to the archive, while accepted guardians have the limited continuity tools used to help keep the archive active, request support, or trigger eligible delivery when needed.
